Amazing lodge about spirit, warmth & nature

Staying at Lion Sands River Lodge revolves about its location: right on the banks of the Sabi River. River Lodge is the very heart and soul of the Lions Sands Game Reserve area in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. You will immediately feel at home upon arrival in the lodge: its incredible warm staff will make sure nothing lacks during your stay. The setup of Lion Sands River Lodge is very spacious, and each communal area is a welcoming invitation to wind down in one of Africa's prime game areas. Sit back and relax in the comfortable lounge and soak up the sounds of the bush. On chilly winter nights a gigantic fireplace provides comfortable warmth. You may also prefer to take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool.

Lion Sands River Lodge consists of eighteen rooms in total: eight luxury suites, six superior luxury suites and four river suites (with private plunge pools), all with their own private wooden viewing deck looking out over the Sabi River. You may not need to leave the privacy of your room to see wildlife roaming around River Lodge. The Sabi Sands, and especially the surroundings of the Sabi River, is famous for its record number of leopard sightings. Your luxury suite features a king-sized bed and large en suite bathroom (superior luxury suites and river suites also have outdoor showers). Of course, all suites are air-conditioned. The suite will serve as your tranquil haven during your stay at Lion Sands River Lodge. The communal areas and rooms are connected by wooden boardwalks.

Tripadvisor comments Lion Sands River Lodge

My wife and I went to Lion Sands to begin our honeymoon, and we couldn't have had a better experience. The staff was incredible, the food was amazing, the room was great, and our game viewing was perfect. Our ranger and tracker, Syd and Sylvester, did a fantastic job of making sure our trip was memorable. On our first drive we saw four of the Big Five, and they didn't rest until we saw the fifth (a leopard) on our second day. Our butler, Solly, was incredibly attentive and friendly. All of the food that we had exceeded our expectations (wild boar, ostrich, springbok, gemsbok, kudu, wildebeaste, and more). The staff knew that we were honeymooning, and they went out of their way to give us upgrades and make our stay extra special. We have already recommended friends, and we're planning a trip back for a future anniversary. The only bad part of our stay was having to leave!

There are many factors to consider when deciding which game reserve in South Africa to visit. I chose a private game reserve as I wanted fewer people in a private vehicle, off road driving, high standards for accommodations and food, and of course the best opportunities for game sightings. My 20 year old daughter and I had 3 amazing nights at the Lion Sands Resorts in March. We could have easily spent 4 nights. It was an wonderful experience- delicious and regular options for dinning (even out in the bush), personal attention and comfortable accommodations, energetic, knowledgeable and personable ranger and tracker, as well as access to an incredible variety of animals, birds, and plants. Our sighting experience was terrific, with 2 game drives daily (one early in the morning and one in the evening) and during the day- options for exercise, spa or relaxation.
