The lodge is a little different compared to most other safari lodges in the Sabi Sands. Ivory and black colours lead the design frenzy, resulting in just eight one-bedroom villas and one two-bedroom 'Fish Eagle' villa with a feeling of zen.

You will experience complete privacy when staying at Lion Sands Ivory Lodge: each luxury villa is set apart by some twenty metres. Your spacious bedroom is connected to an even larger living area by means of a sun deck. This is the perfect place to wind down from all excitement experienced during a typical safari day: a large comfy sofa faces an open fireplace. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls facilitate a wonderful view over the surrounding bushveld and Sabi River. Activities at Lion Sands Ivory Lodge

At Lion Sands Ivory Lodge you will be guided by extremely professional and knowledgeable field guides and trackers during safari activities. They will make sure that your safari experience not only meets but also exceeds your expectations. Game drives are conducted in open 4x4 safari vehicles and you will be accompanied by a two-man team (of which the tracker will sit on the front of the vehicle). Morning game drives have a distinct character than late afternoon game drives allowing you to see different species of wildlife in an ever changing settting. All safari vehicles are equipped with binoculars and bird books for your convenience. Hot-water bottles and blankets keep away the cold during chilly winter mornings. Chances of seeing the complete Big 5 are exceptionally high in this part of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. The area around Lion Sands is famous for its incredible number of leopard sightings. So if you are up for a luxury safari adventure, and would like to spot the elusive leopard, Lion Sands Ivory Lodge may very well be the place for you.

Besides game viewing from a safari vehicle, you may also choose to participate in the once daily game walk (after breakfast). Other activities include visits to a local Shangaan village where you can learn about local traditional medicine and buy local crafts. We stayed at Lion Sands for our Honeymoon, and we enjoyed every minute. It was an experience from early morning to late at night: early morning safari rides with hot water bottles and blankets, fantastic wildlife and wonderful and friendly guides, picnics at sunset with lovely food and drinks, lovely meals and a varied menu, the superbly filled room bar - views from our balcony to a hurd of elephants coming down to the river to drink and splash about, waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of a biiiiig lion crossing the river - if I could only afford it I would go back every year! If you ever think that you should splash out and do a "once in a lifetime" type of holiday - this is it.

Lion Sands Ivory Lodge is one of those places that is almost impossible to describe to someone unless they experience it themselves. The lodges are stunning and the staff is some of the most friendly and helpful I have ever encountered in all of my travels. In terms of game viewing, we saw more then we could have ever imagined including a cheetah kill and a pride of lions feasting on a buffalo (all while being no more than 5-10 feet from the animals). Our ranger Brandon and tracker Ray were fantastic and knowledgeable and made the game drives that much more interesting and fun. The quality of the food was also amazing and the chef was more than happy to accommodate any of your needs. I couldn't recommend the Ivory Lodge more!
